It was a 100 per cent clearance for Webollabolla Shorthorns at Moree on Friday, where bulls topped at $14,000 twice and averaged $7346 for the 49 two year old sires sold.
Stud principal Jen Jeffreys said the drought hardened and professionally culled cohort showed consistency with an overall focus on structure and quality. Importantly, this year's crop came from proven matrons who continued to produce calves in spite of the worst dry in the stud's history.
Repeat buyers CC Francis and sons, Gobothery at Forbes came away with three of the top priced bulls including the $14,000 homozygous poll Weebollabolla Pitman P75 by The Grove L0247 with an all-around genotype and good carcase attributes that elevated his dollar index to a top 5pc figure of +79.
Volume buyers were the McLellan family from Warren, repeat clients of the Munro family, who took home 13 sires to produce calves for the stud's branded beef product as well as JBS, paying up to $7000 for Weebollabolla Paul P193 by Weebollabolla Maranoa M6.
Repeat buyer Jeogla Pastoral east of Armidale bought five bulls including $8000 for the roan Weebollabolla Packer P9 by Weebollabolla Lomu L8, a sire with the highest dollar index of the draft at +82.
Returning client Peter Beale, Roma Qld, secured four bulls through Auctions Plus including the $11,000 homozygous poll Weebollabolla President P300 by Weebollabolla Jackpot J87 with a dollar index of +77.
Repeat buyers the Hill family, Tooloombilla Pastoral at Mitchell Qld, came away with four bulls to assist their British over Euro cross-breeding program including Weebollabolla Pastoralist P185 by Weebollabolla Munro's Luck M100 which sports a +74 dollar index. His dam is of the Weebollabolla Nindethana line, known for longevity and ability to produce saleable sires.
Repeat clients Andrew and Campbell Hill, South Middlebrook, Nundle, bought the homozygous poll Weebollabolla Pedro P395 by Yamburgan Ossie G10 for $10,000 and will put the Shorthorn sire over Brahman cows with bullocks grown out for Bindaree Beef and first cross heifers offered at future F1 female sales at Casino.
First time buyers Digby and Liza Hone, Port Macquarie, took long time Weebollabolla associate Bruce McNeil's advice and bought two bulls including the $8500 Weebollabolla Pinjarra P159 by Yamburgan Emperor L63 for their Barraba property.
Tasmanian beef producers the Lefever family, Pyengana via Scottsdale, won the $9,500 bid for the handsome roan Weebollabolla Perkins P141 by The Grove K0182.
The sale was supported by Elders and Bob Jamieson Agencies with online agencies Auctions Plus and Elite Livestock. Elders Auctioneer Lincoln McKinlay entertained the crowded barn with his song-song style.
